Wil van der Beek's arrangement preserves the rich texture of the original so even young bands can enjoy performing part of Handel's masterful oratorio.

Following in the footsteps of Ceremonial March, Mercury, Arsenal and Minerva, Helios is a concert march in the tradition of grand English marches. In the first passage, several connected themes are developed in a combination of contrasting nuances. The melodic line of the trio is long and expressive, a characteristic found in all Jan Van der Roost's marches. Helios represents the ideal combination of rich thematic material with a traditional harmonic structure.

This short and lively overture will make a fantastic opening piece for any concert. It begins with the fanfare-like main theme played by the clarinets and saxophones, which is taken up by the whole band. Following a slower central chorale the original tempo returns and the opening fanfares re-appear to bring the piece to a triumphal end.

The innovative Spanish composer Ferrer Ferran has taken Greek mythology as an inspiration for his concerto for trumpet and concert band. Hydra, the water monster decapitated by Hercules and Iolaus, terrorized the area of Lerna, near Argos. The concerto is in three contrasting sections. The first section is rhythmical and triumphant, the second is calm and melodious, and the last part provides an aggressive ending.
