Featuring some of the funkiest rhythm and blues sounds of the 70's, John Wasson's driving arrangement includes Soul Man (Sam and Dave), Respect (Aretha Franklin), In The Midnight Hour (Wilson Pickett) and Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay (Otis Redding).

This ambitious work was inspired by the Les Cheneaux region in northern Michigan. Written in the form of a suite, each movement describes a different element of this area steeped in colorful history and beauty. I. Early Exploration is a bold statement with stirring brass and powerful percussion writing. II. Onomonee is reminiscent of the early native people to inhabit the region and features a solo Indian Flute (opt. recorder or flute) along with contemporary harmonies and rhythm patterns. III. Huron Nocturne is a marvelously lyric movement which features the woodwinds. IV. New Beginnings brings this impressive work to a close with an energetic 6/8 pulse and spirited melodies. (8:15)
