John La Barbera has taken his well-known version of Chick Corea's Spain and done a great job of adapting it for the small band format. Certainly an exciting offering for mature players in an arrangement for six horns plus rhythm. (Grade 4)

This monster arrangement is the authentic version as recorded by Bill Watrous and his Manhattan Wildlife Refuge in the mid '70s. The signature lines and blazing tempo of Chick Corea's classic are transformed into a roaring chart for big band by master arranger John LaBarbera. (Alto 1 doubles Flute, and Alto 2 doubles Soprano Sax)

After an initial explosion of brass, the rhythm section settles into a Rumba Flamenco groove and the chart really starts to cook. The saxes get a workout on this one supported by hot brass lines. Includes solo space for tenor sax.

Young Jazz Ensemble - Grade 3 Tenor sax and trumpet take the spotlight on this familiar standard arranged here in a medium swing style. The interaction with the full band is marvelous, and after the solo section a roaring sax soli leads to a feature section for the entire ensemble. This one swings hard and sounds great!

Never has there been a version of this Sonny Rollins classic in an arrangement this easy! With ample use of unison lines, a moderate tempo and careful scoring, this one will really cook with young players.
