In 1725 J.S. Bach composed the cantata BWV79 Gott, der Herr, is Sonn' un Schild for the celebration of the Reformation. Originally written for three vocal soloists, choir, and orchestra, Cantata No. 79 is partially based on the well-known hymn Now Thank We All Our God, the melody of which is attributed to Martin Rinckart. This arrangement for concert band by Robert van Beringen combines part of the first movement (Coro) with an ensemble from the third movement (Choral).

Music from the Caribbean is instantly recognizable. It somehow conveys sunshine and lazy summers and is full of the 'feel-good' factor. It is this infectious happines that composer Philip Sparke has tried to capture n Clarinet Calypso. Featuring the percussion section throughout (which, of course, may be elaborated if more players are available), it opens with an optional clarinet solo and then duet before the whole band takes up the theme. The brass then presents a contrasting second theme, which is repeated with different instrumentations. Following a brief climax, the clarinets reverse their roles and the piece ends as it began.
