The title makes an obvious reference to Mr. Curnow's teacher, mentor and renowned baritone horn teacher/soloist Leonard. This is a four-movement suite of fantasy variations, based on a theme from one of Falcone's favorite band transcriptions: Andrea Chanier (Opera Excerpts) by Umberto Giordano. This theme is only referenced (not quoted) in the opening cadenza of Movement #1, then developed throughout the overall construction of all four movements.

Commissioned by Dr. Grady Hallman, M.D. Gounod's Prayer (O, Divine Redeemer!), originally a solo for Mezzo-Soprano, chorus and orchestra, comes from his oratorio La Redemption, and here is presented as a beautiful lyrical solo for euphonium and piano accompaniment.

James Curnow's transcription of this lovely music for euphonium and piano (can also be performed with Mahler's original orchestration) strives to allow the beauty of the euphonium tone and expressive nature of the music to achieve a cohesive music experience for the performer, accompanist and listener alike.

Allen Vizzutti has put together a blend of technical and lyrical challenges that all have their roots in familiar classical and dance styles. These dances do not test extremes of range, and as such, are accessible to most euphonium and baritone players. Some of them are very quick, but in the early stages of practice, it's recommended to keep the tempi moderate and speed them up as you progress. Includes an intro by and bio of Steven Mead, and a play-along accompaniment CD.
