Ensemble

From David Benoit's recent CD Full Circle, here is a funky piece that features a catchy groove and and infectious melody. Skillfully adapted by Mike Tomaro in this version for jazz ensemble it includes solos for tenor sax and piano.

Composed by jazz master Wynton Marsalis and arranged for full jazz ensemble by Michael Philip Mossman, this is an attractive chart featuring muted trumpets on the melody with answering countermelodies in the saxes and bones. The overall feel is light and breezy, with solos included for trumpet and tenor.

Using the trademark samba style that Chick Corea become known for, here is his composition North Africa in an outstanding interpretation by Mike Tomaro. The opening section features a small group followed by a piano statement of the main theme. From there the chart builds nicely with the effective use of every section of the ensemble. A tenor sax solo is also featured.
