Kenny Dorham's relaxed Latin classic is a must for all jazz programs. Mark has retained elements of the original version using a small group (alto, tenor, trumpet and trombone) on the opening statement, then the saxes playing the important secondary theme. Included after the flexible solo section is a sax soli, ensemble shout, and stop-time section featuring the drums. This chart is destined to become a classic in itself.

One of the many distinctive melodies composed by Vince Guaraldi for the Charlie Brown television specials is this medium swing blues tune. The saxes take the lead at the top, but the brass get their chance on the final shout chorus. The blues form makes this a great tune for any soloist, and there are easy sample solos provided for alto and trumpet.

Made famous by the Woody Herman Orchestra, this slow swing chart starts with the saxes on the melody with the brass in plungers (optional). The arrangement gains momentum steadily throughout and includes short solos for trumpet and alto. Bluesy and nice!
