This overture by John Tatgenhorst was written as a tribute to the many dedicated band directors across the country who develop excellence in their musical programs year after year. The music grows from simple melodic motifs into a variety of spirited and rhythmic variations. This piece also features band vocals and dramatic effects. (Grade 3)

This Clifton Williams masterpiece has been well-known in the band repertoire for decades. In this adaptation for younger groups, Jay Bocook has streamlined the instrumentation, made judicious cuts, and eliminated some of the extreme brass ranges of the original. This superb edition deserves serious consideration for contests or festivals.

This notable work has remained a model for the band overture format, with an entire movement growing out of the opening fanfare. From the gifted pen of Clifton Williams, this overture continues to be an exceptionally popular work, and deservedly so!
