Here are two of the most recognizable themes from Johan de Meij's landmark work for band, The Lord of the Rings, in a sparkling setting for young players. From the powerful opening strain to the beautiful hymn, this easy arrangement is scored in a way that will make even small bands sound terrific.

The fifth movement expresses the carefree and optimistic character of the Hobbits in a happy folk dance; the hymn that follows emanates the determination and noblesse of the hobbit folk.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2008, Johan de Meij's work was awarded the Sudler Prize for composition in 1990 and continues to receive important performances yearly.
