This landmark work by Maury Yeston was commissioned by the Kennedy Center for performance on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial as part of the National Millennium Celebration on July 1, 2000. Composed for double chorus, boys choir and gospel choir and orchestra, the three-movement work celebrates the idea of individual liberty and equality with a text based on excerpts from the Magna Carta, the writings of Thomas Jefferson, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and original lyrics by the composer. Orchestral materials on rental from Cherry Lane Music.
